The Getty put out a call to the people and boy have the people responded. On March 25th, the museum sent out a Tweet accompanied by an Instagram post challenging people everywhere to recreate some of their favourite artworks while they isolate at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s one of many ways that people have stayed connected and gotten involved from the safety of their own home. The request was simple: chose an artwork and include at least three things from around the house. The results have been great as people have committed to the call so we’ve got a few corralled for you now. And if you feel so moved, create your own masterpiece at home!

We challenged you to dig into Getty’s online collections and re-create artworks with objects at home, inspired by the Instagram account @tussenkunstenquarantaine aka “Between Art and Quarantine,” and boy did you deliver. Swipe to see just a few of the thousands of genius re-creations. Some tips for you if you haven’t taken on the challenge yet: . 1️⃣ Enlist a pet: Get your dogs, cats, bunnies, and even ferrets into the mix. 2️⃣ Make a face, strike a pose: If you’re interested in re-creating a portrait or group scene, pay attention to the facial expressions—they really make it. 3️⃣ Pay attention to lighting: Try to imagine where the light in the artwork is coming from, and orient your composition so a window or lamp is casting similar light onto the scene. 4️⃣ Think abstractly: If you’re having trouble re-creating an artwork’s appearance, try focusing on shapes over colors. 5️⃣ Make it snackable: Edible art counts too. Photograph it, then eat it! . Tag us @gettymuseum and share your creation with the world using #betweenartandquarantine and #tussenkunstenquarataine. Keep them coming, creative geniuses. 👏

Today’s #quarantine activity: the @tussenkunstenquarantaine challenge to reproduce classic works of art using household items- ✔️ So happy that Bob had a gig after all, as I needed an extra poser for my rendition of Paul Cézanne’s “The card players” (the Musée d’Orsay version), and all those left-over beanie babies were finally unconfined from the closet to pose in a sketchy version of Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s “Earth”, from his series “The Elements” (private collection). Thanks to @francis.kohn for his willingness to smoke a pastry brush pipe while wearing a funny hat… . #lorenbatt #art #painting #quarantinelife #remake #betweenartandquarantine #cezanne #arcimboldo #bob #gettymuseumchallenge #tussenkunstenquarantaine
